Margot reinvents the experience at the Hôtel Richer de Belleval

A true architectural gem in the heart of Montpellier’s historic center, the Hôtel Richer de Belleval carries several centuries of history. Formerly the home of Pierre Richer de Belleval, naturalist, physician to King Henri IV and founder of the Jardin des Plantes in Montpellier. Originally designed as a space for learning, observation and knowledge sharing, the building has stood the test of time while retaining its unique identity.

Today, this house steeped in history has been given a new lease of life as a Relais & Châteaux hotel and restaurant, while retaining its exceptional heritage character. Located on Place de la Canourgue, the Hôtel Richer de Belleval strikes a subtle balance between past and present. Frescoes, woodwork, panelling, fireplaces and vaults have been carefully renovated, restoring the building to its former glory and revealing the richness of its architecture.

The transformation of the site was led by architect Philippe Prost, a specialist in the restoration of historic monuments, with interior design by Christian Collot. Together, they created a dialogue between different eras without ever setting them in opposition, infusing a discreet contemporary style into the heart of an ancient heritage site. The bedrooms and living spaces flow harmoniously from one to the next, each bearing the mark of history and the creative sensibility of the project.

In this renaissance, Margot was the natural choice for the bathroom design. The Thétis fittings collection, with its simple, timeless lines, blends perfectly with the historic architecture of the building. The Charme and Volupté bathtubs, along with the Le Tréport washbasins, elegantly complete the ensemble, adding a sculptural dimension to the bathroom spaces.

Here, Margot taps and fittings transcend their simple function to become true elements of interior architecture. Respecting the history of the place, they contribute to an immersive experience where contemporary comfort blends with the heritage spirit of the Hôtel Richer de Belleval. A successful encounter between heritage, creativity and the French art of living.
